The oath taken by the Rashtrapati is not ceremonial. It is a constitutional commitment to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of India and to devote oneself to the service of the people. When citizens and organisations write to the highest constitutional office of the land about social, economic and political injustice and receive no reply, no acknowledgement and no action, it raises a serious question about the meaning of that oath. An oath to the nation means you are answerable to the nation. Silence in the face of documented injustice is not neutrality. It is a failure of constitutional duty.
